Even before I started working at Zazou, I have always, always, always LOVED scarves.
Going to dinner? Scarf.
Cold day? Bigger scarf.
Meeting friends in San Francisco? Take the belt off your dress on BART and tie it around your head. Instant scarf.
But in all my scarf-wearing adventures, I do come across a rut - tying my scarves the same old boring way.
Shown here: the classic European knot. Though it looks like I'm also suffering from over-accessorization syndrome. My face seems to know this.
Just how many ways can you tie a scarf, anyway? At least 25:

The "this-scarf-is-so-cool-you-can-just-schlump-it-around-your-neck-and-be-done-with-it" - my personal favorite.
One person has identified over 70 ways to tie a scarf. I found this book lying around our offices and fell in love with the cover.
(I guess this is the toga tie?)
Behold "Scarf Tying Magic," circa 1988, available on amazon.com for $5.06. (Interesting sidenote: there were several scarf-tying books I found that also contained the word "magic." Go figure.)

But, glancing through "Scarf Magic's" impressive 127 pages, I couldn't help thinking - well, this is no fun.
What I love about scarves aren't all the intricate little ties I can make. I like the free-form feeling of it. I like playing with it. I like letting it blow in the breeze.
Bunching it up around my face when I'm cold.
Playing in the samples box and making my, um, own look.
Though I don't think the Scarf Bib is going to take off anytime soon.
